The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHC) is looking to fund research into decarbonising the health and social care system. This initiative is part of its commitment to climate health and sustainability by reducing carbon emissions and achieving Net Zero. The cross-programme funding opportunity will be available annually over the next five years, with a total funding amount of £25 million. A new application process will open each year.
Scope
The focus of the proposed research can range from development, feasibility, and acceptability to evaluating effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and implementation of interventions.
You may wish to consider the following themes, however proposals are not limited to these areas:
- Developing sustainable health and social care pathways
- Reducing carbon emissions in healthcare through preventative and personalised care
- Innovations in diagnostic, imaging, and surgical services
- Empowering patients to manage their own health
- Self-management, prevention, and earlier detection of mental health conditions
